Travel Vaccinations

We are accredited Yellow fever Vaccine Centre Between 3.5 and 4.5 million Australians embark on overseas travel annually. Although many of these trips are to countries where health risks exist, the majority of Australians travelling overseas do not seek pre-travel health advice. Every year Australian travellers become ill or even die while travelling abroad.   Many of the infectious diseases that cause some of this morbidity and mortality are preventable through vaccination. At our Day and Night Medical centre’s, our doctors will be able to advise you on appropriate vaccinations and travel precautions, relative to your destination and the season in which you are travelling. As an accredited yellow fever vaccine medical centre, we also offer all legally required vaccinations for travel.   The Australian Governments National Health and Medical Research Council recommend all travellers to be vaccinated against: Tetanus Yellow Fever Whooping cough Diphtheria Polio Influenza/ Flu-vaccine Pneumonia Meningococcal C, B Hepatitis B Hepatitis A Typhoid Cholera Rabies Japanese encephalitis There are also infectious diseases such as schistosomiasis, malaria and leptospirosis for which no vaccine has been introduced into clinical practice.   However, your doctor will be able to advise you on diseases that are common to your area of travel and provide you with prevention strategies. We encourage you to book your appointment for vaccination with us at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to your departure date as some vaccines take time to become effective within your body and may require multiple treatments over a period of weeks.

Immunisation

Vaccinations are quick, safe and extremely effective. Once your child has been vaccinated against a disease, their body can fight it more effectively. If a child isn’t vaccinated, they will have an increased risk of catching the illness.

There will always be some children who are unavoidably unprotected because:

  • they can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons
  • they’re too young to be vaccinated
  • they can’t get to the vaccine services
  • the vaccine doesn’t work (although this is rare)
